Building Code Consulting
Buildings that will be or are being constructed, have been substantially renovated, have added additions or have or will be going through a change of use are required to meet the current applicable local building code. A building may not have been initially designed to meet the current applicable construction, fire and life safety requirements, which may lead to costly design and installation change orders.
How PLC Can Help
Before the building design progresses, PLC’s engineers have the technical knowledge of the building codes applicable in Canada to evaluate a building and determine its level of compliance with the fire and life safety requirements of the code. Where a building element does not meet the prescriptive acceptable solutions of the building code, PLC can provide Alternative Solutions. These Alternative Solutions demonstrate that the functional and objective intent of the building code is achieved. PLC has staff on technical committees of the National Building Code of Canada and who have worked for Provincial Authority Having Jurisdiction which are responsible for building plan reviews.
